It seems that 420chan has somehow once again exceeded my expectations and is now super mega popular, hurray!
We're in need of a few new mods, that's where you come in. You don't need any special talents such as knowing how to code or how to bake me a triple layer fudge cake, although the thought is nice. Every board is in need of new mods so we're mostly looking for global mods over say janitors or single board mods.
What we require of you is rather quite simple and yet it seems to be almost impossible at the same time. We need people who are intelligent, know how to reason and have a sense of justice. Being a moderator for a *chan is a very awful job. There are many horrible things that most of you have been shielded from here in attempt to keep this place clean from that..filth. It only gets worse.
You will be required to understand how IRC works and you must join #420chan as well as #moderators. Please don't query me with stupid crap, in fact don't query me at all. I will be observing you. If you don't know how irc works, look at the irc info page. Study the rules carefully.
When you join irc, you may be confused at first but all will become clear within the first few moments. Note that this isn't fast, you won't be hired this week or next.
So good luck, I look forward to meeting any of you new comers.
A friendly reminder that we offer free streams of all UFC, TNA and WWE Pay-Per-View events for 420chan users.
High traffic events are secured using an irc-based authentication system. This is to prevent public sharing of our streams.
For more information on this particular event, visit /mma/.
This uses our private, proprietary flash video delivery network, that will eventually be used for TaimaTV in the coming weeks. It's been used for 4 events so far and we're quite happy with the system.
Enjoy the fight!
420chan is a simple image-based bulletin board where anyone can post comments, share images, and hold conversations with other like-minded people. 420chan's collaborative-community format is based on the widely popular Japanese and English-speaking boards, Futaba Channel and 4chan. Different boards are dedicated to a wide variety of different topics, ranging from psychoactive materials, psychology, chemistry, and politics, to videogames, professional wrestling, music, and art. Users do not need to register a username before participating in the community.
In order to access the full site, you must first read and agree to the terms of the disclaimer. To access the disclaimer simply click any board and a dialogue will appear. Your response will be cookied for one week.
Users are encouraged to participate actively in our community, but only after they have familiarized themselves with the rules and this FAQ. Breaking the rules may result in post deletion, a temporary ban, or in some cases, permanent banishment. Understand the rules before you begin posting!
Anonymity works somewhat differently here compared to other, similar communities. When you leave the Name field blank, you are assigned a randomly generated name that changes once every 24 hours. Your name does not follow you between boards. Please note that this is different from your ID. Your ID is a separate per-board IP-based hash that can be used to help identify problematic or 'trolling' users.
No user registration process is available. If you're worried about somebody impersonating you, consider using a tripcode to help validate your identity.
Posting an image is not absolutely required, however it is preferable to begin a thread with an image.
Yes. To reply to a thread with an image of your own, click the [Reply] link and fill in the post box as you normally would, making sure to specify an image for attachment.
To quote a portion of text, simply place a pointer (">") in front of the text you wish to highlight (ex. ">This is a quote"). To link to and highlight an entire post, place two pointers in front of its unique post number (ex. ">>210981").
Yes you can. Spoilerizing text makes it unreadable to others until they mouse over it. To spoilerize a comment, place '%' tags around the text you wish to hide (ex. "%SNAKE DIES%"). Gross misuse of these tags may result in a ban.
Tripcodes can help verify a user's identity to others, and are a type of pseudo-registration. To use a normal tripcode, place an octothorpe ("#") followed by a word or short phrase after what you've entered into the [Name] field (ex. "User#password"). Upon submission, the server will generate the hash unique to that particular word or phrase. The previous example would display "User !ozOtJW9BFA" after being posted.
Important note: A tripcode is generated only using the text entered after the octothorpe. Your entered name, IP address, cookie information, etc. do not affect the output. Normal tripcodes are *not* entirely secure; most can be cracked with relative ease. For a more secure solution, see secure tripcodes.
A secure tripcode can be generated by placing two separate octothorpes and words in the [Name] field, as opposed to one as with a normal tripcode (ex. "User#password#password"). Secure tripcodes use a secret key file on the server to help obscure their password. The previous example would display "User !ozOtJW9BFA!!QVo+UkZm" after being posted.
Entering "sage" (by itself) into the [E-mail] field while replying will cause the thread not to bump to the top of the page. There is no visual indicator that one has used "sage" in their post. This can be used to politely add a non-noteworthy reply to a thread without bumping it to the top.
We do not currently have a method of remaining in a thread after you reply. It is very easy to return to it. Should the need arise, we may consider adding such a feature in the future.
Reporting posts for review is extremely encouraged, as it helps us remove rule breaking and/or illegal content faster. To file a report, click on the exclamation point /!\ icon next to a post. A confirmation dialogue will pop up and ask if the post you are reporting is a rule violation, or if it contains illegal material. Be sure to mark this appropriately!
Important note: Submitting false reports will result in your ability to report posts being removed. This policy is in place to discourage abuse of the system; it is not meant to dissuade users from submitting legitimate reports.
When you submit a post, you have the option of entering a deletion password in the [Password] field. If you do not specify a password, one will be automatically generated for you and cookied to your browser. As long as your browser retains this cookie, you will be able to delete posts made using it (the box should appear to be filled in automatically). To delete your post(s), check the box in the upper left hand corner of the specific post(s) you wish to remove, and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the [Delete] button. The password field should be automatically filled in. If it is not, you must manually enter in the password you selected. Checking the [X File Only] box will cause only the image to be deleted, leaving the comment untouched.
All threads have a set bump limit. On most boards, the bump limit is set to around 500 posts. When this limit is reached, a thread will no longer "bump" to the top of the board, causing the thread to descend through the pages until it is marked for deletion and pruned. This method of post-limiting, while sometimes inconvenient, assures that content is kept fresh on the boards.
Threads expire and are pruned by 420chan's software at a relatively high rate. Most boards are limited to storing 4000 posts, and content is usually available for only a few days before it is removed. Most times, the post was probably flagged as old and marked for deletion automatically, however in some cases it may have been removed by a staff member. We ask that users refrain from reposting material that they believe to have been deleted by the staff. Doing so may result in a ban.
No. Content that expires is removed from our system entirely. Archives are currently not available, but an automated thread-voting archival system is being written. Please do not e-mail us requesting content that has been pruned, for it is impossible for us to assist you.
No. Unless a user elects to include an e-mail address in their post, there is no way to contact that user privately (outside of the imageboard). More details regarding our storage of personal information can be found here.
"Stickied" threads are posts that are stuck (hence "sticky/stickied") to the top of a board's index page. A stickied thread is denoted by a small thumbtack icon placed next to its post number. Threads can only be stuck by moderators, and cannot be saged or otherwise unstuck by users. Trolling, sage-bombing, or reporting a sticky may result in a ban.
The blotter provides a short brief of recent site developments. It displays the most recent 420chan Blog post. It is visible above the postbox on every board.
420chan maintains a few RSS and Twitter feeds, which are located at the following URLs:
The 420chan Firefox Extension is developed by OhLawd, and made available on the tools page. If you use Firefox, you absolutely need this!
Trial boards are added every now and then to broaden the scope of the website. We open new trial boards as resources permit, based on requests from the userbase. If a board does not perform well, it is removed to make way for others.
Short answer: no. Long answer: maybe. Boards are added only if we believe there is enough interest to drive quality traffic to them. Presently, there aren't enough available resources to allow the addition of new trial boards. You may discuss board ideas on /420/.
